Casey & Sarah Camp Wedding

September 18-20, 2026
Camp Kirby, Samish Island, Washington

Wedding Ethos / Acknowledgement of a Big Ask

We want to spend time with you. Friday – Sunday is a big ask, we know. Friday is for dropping bags, settling in, getting all your camp information, taking a load off, and taking in the views. However, this time plays an important role in the weekend. If you’ve been to a multi-day training, work trip, retreat, you know the first day is awkward. That’s fine. But it tees up the rest of the time: by the next day you recognize a couple people, are more comfortable navigating the space, etc.

After a day and a half, there is a kind of camp magic that happens. Everyone is more settled and less awkward. You know who you want (or at least who you don’t want) to sit next to. You’ve met a handful of people and are feeling more like yourself. This energy is what we are targeting by the time the Variety Show rolls around. It’s going to be fun and quirky, but to make it as amazing as we think it can be – we need everyone to be emotionally bought in.

If you’re able, please plan to take Friday off of work. This is your gift to us. Truly, please do not bring us a gift. Just show up. We want everyone there on Friday afternoon.

Logistics

Transportation

Driving: The venue is about 90 minutes from Seattle. If you are local enough to drive, there is plenty of parking.
Some specific driving instructions: When you reach Samish Island, please ignore your phone’s directions and follow the signed route to Camp Kirby. The road into camp is steep and gravel; please honk at the indicated signs before ascending/descending the hill. Downhill cars have right of way.

Flying: Sea-Tac, Paine Field, and Bellingham are all reasonable options to fly into. We’d love to limit the amount of car rentals that happen, mostly because any rentals will sit all weekend unmoved.
Book your flight early, let us know your itinerary, and we will help coordinate carpooling/pick ups.

Housing

Lodging is 100% provided! Camp Kirby sleeps around 200 people. There are about a dozen structures; a combination of cabins, bunk houses, and tree houses (lower your expectations, they’re barely elevated). As a fully-functioning summer camp, the mattresses are nothing fancy. Think vinyl dorm room mattress. Very few of the cabins have heating. Even less have plumbing. There are a few centralized restrooms located throughout the property.

Additionally, there will not be 200 people attending. We’ll be significantly below capacity and therefore will have plenty of space to spread folks out. We plan to room you with folks you already know and make it as comfortable (and fun!) as possible.

Two nights? Really?

Really. Having everyone there for both Friday and Saturday nights is extremely important to us. Please do everything in your – reasonable – power to make this possible. Friday is not just for family or the wedding party (spoiler: there is no wedding party). We want everyone there as early as possible.

If you are driving to the wedding, please plan to bring your own bedding, blankets, and/or sleeping bags.

If you are flying in and packing bedding is an issue, please indicate this on your RSVP and we will procure appropriate bedding for you.

Food

We’ve got it covered. Show up hungry and, in the spirit of camp, willing to lend a hand when called upon.

Booze & Other

Beer, wine, and a few NA options will be widely available. The venue does not allow hard alcohol.

Dress Code

Thriftshop Formal.

Okay, but what does that mean? First, it means formal. Second, don’t buy anything new. Have a suit or dress already that you like? Wear it! Want to borrow something in a fun color or pick something up at a secondhand store? Go for it! Find just the right piece at an estate sale? Even better. Funkiness is highly encouraged. We do not have a color scheme so don’t worry about clashing or blending in. Wear something that you feel good in. Just don’t buy it new.

There is a small uphill walk on dirt/gravel to the ceremony spot so please plan footwear accordingly. Heels probably aren’t the move, but the reception will be indoors (with electricity and plumbing!) so feel free to bring a fancy inside shoe if you please.

The Reception

In lieu of dancing, we are going to emcee (NOT a talent show) but a *variety* show. It’s much different. You don’t need a talent. There will be:

A note on participation: you do not have to participate. Though, if we’re inviting you and you make your way all the way out to our fake island… we really like you. Please get ahold of us if you have an idea of something you’d like to do. More than likely, it’s going to be a Yes from us.

Children

We love kids! We especially love your kids. They aren’t invited to our wedding, though. Please arrange for childcare.

Pets

It’s gonna be a no for us, dog. Also the venue does not allow them.

Gifts/Registration

We are not registering for gifts. This wedding is a huge ask of you all: taking time off work, finding child care, traveling to parts unknown, dressing up nice, eating and drinking to your hearts desire, talking and laughing, potentially (probably, hopefully) crying with us. We fully recognize how out of the way this all is. But they say to do what you want for your wedding so that’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re good, seriously. Just. Show. Up.

Bunk beds for all!

This is an actual picture of camp to give you an idea what you’re getting into.
